When It’s Time for a Grown Up Holiday

When It’s Time for a Grown Up Holiday

When planning a vacation or trip, your choice of destination often has to fit where you are in your life.  Everyone remembers their first holiday away from their parents. The excitement of planning it all with your travel companion, and the anticipation of being free to do exactly what you want will stay with you for a long time.  You get back safe and sound, without any major drama’s and eagerly start planning your next adventure almost before you’ve unpacked your suitcase.

Very often this first trip prompts you to start a bucket list of all the places you want to visit, and gradually as life unfolds, you tick them off one by one.

But in which order you do that, very much depends on what life has in store for you.  If you go to University, you may well have a bit of a limited budget for a while and you travel by coach or rail with your best buddies, staying in low cost accommodation, and eating out at the fast food shop to make your money go that little bit further.

Then you meet the partner of your dreams, who, if you are lucky will also share your wanderlust. Vacations are a little more tailored to suit both your preferences, and sometimes two can get better deals in hotels than either a single person, or a group.  You begin to know what works for you, and what level of accommodation and travel you are comfortable with.

Then before you know it, you are settled with a young family.  Then things really do change then. So many things to take into consideration. The hours spent travelling, the availability of cots and the safety of the destination. Along with things like the temperatures, ensuring it won’t be too hot, or indeed cold, for small people.

Yes for a while, holidays have to be planned like a military operation, and probably at times you wonder if it’s just easier to stop at home!

But all things evolve, and after what seems like an eternity, the children have flown the nest, and it’s just back to planning a trip for two, and the world is still out there waiting to be explored. Only this time, you have a wealth of experience to call on, to decide where you really want to go.

Will it be a road trip, in a rented camper. Maybe you will swap houses with someone in Europe, or maybe you will push the boat out and consider somewhere like some 5 star hotels in Port Louis, Mauritius. You can enjoy a luxury holiday, and be thoroughly spoiled, after all you deserve it.

After all you’ve spent so much time ensuring everyone else’s needs are met during their vacation, now is the time to be selfish, and to plan your own escape to somewhere exotic.

You’ll know when it’s the time for a really grown up holiday, and when that time comes, make sure you really enjoy it.
