We were fortunate to experience an onsite stay at Loews Portofino Bay a couple of years and were utterly spoiled with the hotel experience and the Unlimited Express Passes! Since that time, there have been a few additional hotels that have added to Universal Orlando’s onsite hotel choices (Universal’s Aventura Hotel in 2018), Surfside Inn and Suites (expected opening August 2019) and Dockside Inn & Suites ( opening 2020).
And while I can totally understand the price point of staying offsite to save money, there is such a huge difference between an onsite and offsite stay! We stayed in an offsite hotel last August so we could compare the experience. But…..I will warn you, after staying offsite, we missed the onsite experience so much more! Universal Orlando Resort has become a destination in itself that it can be its own vacation. At the very minimum, I would suggest spending 3-4 days here to be able to enjoy most of what it can offer, especially if you have a wizard-loving Harry Potter fan in your household…..The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is NOT TO BE MISSED!!
