There are a lot of “must-see” locations around the world. Borneo is one of the hottest locations at the moment, but why exactly would you want to give this island a visit?
The Rainforests
It’s hard to talk about Borneo without starting on the rainforests, with this natural feature covering much of the island. There are few places around the world which can boast such a variety of plants, some of which have never been recorded before. In fact, it is believed that there are areas on the island which have never been encountered by humans, opening the doors to loads of proper exploration. There are few places around the globe which can give you the chance to explore new areas, and this is something which is worth soaking up as much as possible on your visit.
The Animals
While the plant life in Borneo is impressive, the animals are even more of a treat. Home to animals like orangutans, leopards, tigers, and even elephants, and this is before you even think about the thousands of species of insect which can be found here. Borneo is one of only two places on the planet where rhinos, elephants, tigers, and orangutans live around each other, though a lot of people don’t realise quite how many other animals there are to see. In a place largely isolated for thousands of years, it makes sense that you’d find such diversity. Seeing it for yourself is much better than imagining, though, and this makes it worth getting your planning started.
The Coast
Being a relatively small island, Borneo is blessed with a huge range of stunning coastlines. Like the rainforests, the oceans around this area are incredibly rich in life, with countless different species of fish and aquatic mammals. An open water course in Kota Kinabalu is a great way to see this, as you will learn to dive properly while you get to see coral reefs, an abundance of different fish, and maybe even some sharks along the way. You should always look for the PADI mark when you’re diving like this, with this organisation being the world-leaders in safety at sea. This shouldn’t limit the places you can dive, though, as they are found across the globe.
With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to get started on the time you put into planning your own adventure to Borneo. This is a unique part of the world, with things on offer which simply can’t be found anywhere else. There aren’t many breaks which can offer the same kind of freedom, though this is something which you can work to improve as time goes on, with research giving you all of the answers you need.
